Are CGIs worth the additional cost?

Property CGIs are computer graphics that provide a realistic, and compelling representation of what your property will look like. They can look impressive, and really help visualise both the interiors and exteriors of a property, but are they worth the extra costs when the planning and design process can already be costly?
When are CGIs typically used?
  • CGIs can support with speeding up the process for acquiring planning consent from local authorities
  • Marketing tool for developers looking at securing capital investment from investors in the early part of development
  • Visual representation to aid estate agents securing buyers for new build properties not yet completed or land/development opportunities with pre approved planning
  • Support with design approval, decision making and ensuring the finished property will be in keeping with the surroundings. CGIs can help clients see their design come to life, transforming endless Pinterest mood boards and inspiration images that may have been collated into one polished view

Our view

CGIs can be a useful tool, especially when embarking on a new build or development. It helps to visualise the final product before commencement of building works and can provide clarity of the clients expectations of the finished aesthetic as their chosen house builder.
For more general extension and renovation works however, usually as an enhancement or complimentary addition to an existing property, it would often seem an unnecessary expenditure.

Recent projects where we have used CGI

Our recently completed Moorehouse project used CGI imagery to support their successful planning application as well as make final design decisions including exterior wall finishes, colour scheme and landscaping. The CGI was a clear representation of what the expectation was for this luxury family home, see the before and after below to see whether we achieved this.
