A coffee and a chat with … a Lettings agent

Jessica Watt MARLA BA(Hons), has been in the letting industry for 10 years. She joined the Missiato family in 2022 to set up Missiato Estates, with the shared vision to create a lettings company that could offer a 5 star service to our existing developer base as well as landlords and tenants across Bristol. We sat down to chat all things lettings and how she found her way into the industry.

Jess Watt from Missiato Estates

How did you get into lettings?

My family have a background in property developing, so I have always been interested in property and felt as though I needed to find where I best fitted within the industry. Not knowing what aspect I wanted to be involved in, I went to university to study Business and Management, following this I was offered a property management role and found this was my calling.

If you weren’t working in lettings, what do you think you would be doing?

I think I would be a teacher, when I was younger this was always what I said I wanted to be but my love for property took over!

What do you enjoy most about being a letting agent?

The diversity in the role, helping others and problem saving. No two days are ever the same.

What do you find the most challenging part of your job?

A non-straight forward maintenance issue. These can often take up a huge amount of time to investigate, organise and fix. But it is always satisfying once resolved and I can tick if off the to do list!

What have you noticed about the letting industry in Bristol over the last 12 months?

It’s not slowing down. Prices continue to increase and demand is still there for high quality properties. With ever changing information about the renters reform bill and new regulations set to come in, a lot more landlords are looking for advice on compliance and starting to consider outsourcing management to accredited agents who can ensure they are kept up to date with their obligations as landlords.

What’s next for Missiato Estates?

In our first year of trading we saw organic growth of 150%. With the new year approaching we are looking to continue to build on this. Our goal is to grow our managed portfolio to support as many landlords as possible in Bristol with our high level customer service and helping tenants find their perfect home.

And finally… What is your hot beverage of choice?

Always a Latte!
