We are seeking a skilled and reliable Bricklayer / Groundworker to join our team. This role combines bricklaying expertise with a strong knowledge of groundworks, contributing to a variety of construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in both areas and will be responsible for building and laying bricks, blocks, and stone, while also assisting with ground preparation, excavation, and other groundwork tasks.

This role will lead a team and report directly into the company directors.

With a team of around 50, we specialise in extensions, loft conversions, full house renovations, new builds and small to medium sized development projects.

Main responsibilities 

• Lead team, set team member tasks and collaborate with project manager and trades to ensure works are completed on time and to the required standard to adhere to project schedules.
• Lay bricks, blocks, and stone to build walls, columns, foundations, and other structures, ensuring accuracy and structural integrity.
• Read and interpret plans to ensure work is carried out according to specifications.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and materials are safely stored and handled.
• Assist with site preparation, including excavation, trenching, and levelling.
• Prepare foundations for the erection of structural elements, including steel frameworks.
• Lay down foundations, drainage systems, and prepare ground for pavement, concrete, or other external structures.
• Operate machinery such as mini-diggers and compactors to assist in groundwork tasks.
• Ensure that all groundworks comply with safety regulations and building standards.
• Erect steel frames, beams, and columns as part of the structural assembly process, following engineering drawings and specifications.

Requirements:

1. Minimum 10 years proven experience as a Bricklayer/Groundworker in the construction industry, preferably in residential setting.
2. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and engineering specifications.
3. Proficient in the use of various bricklaying tools, machinery, and equipment.
4. Experience with groundwork tasks such as excavation, concreting, and drainage installation.
5. Familiarity with health and safety regulations, especially in relation to steel erection and construction work.

Valid UK driving license or equivalent (desirable).
